GILLINGHAM have made another proposal to Blue Square Premier side Forest Green Rovers in a bid to lure star striker Stuart Fleetwood.
The Gills are involved in a bidding war for Fleetwood, with Crewe and Cheltenham also making offers, but manager Mark Stimson is hoping that their one will seal it.
"We're just waiting for a phone call from their chairman because we've put something else across," he said. "They don't want to lose him now as they've got a chance in the play-offs in their league.
"We've put something across that might attract them."
Gillingham could buy the player and then loan him back to Forest Green for the rest of the season.
Fleetwood is out of contract in the summer and the non-league side must cash in now if they want to make any money on the division's top scorer.
Gillingham do face tough opposition for his signature, with Bristol Rovers also rumoured to be interested, but Stimson isn't going to give up easily.
He said: "I know there is interest from other clubs and I think Crewe got into the race and probably doubled the bid that we've put in and we'll just have to wait and see.
"He's one of two or three players I'm waiting for phone calls about and hopefully by Thursday we might have two or three new bodies around."
Stimson has several players he remains interested in with two centre forwards, a central midfielder and a centre back on his January shopping list.
