GILLINGHAM striker Iwan Roberts has moved to Cambridge on-loan for the rest of the season, despite the club denying he was going anywhere.
Assistant boss Ronnie Jepson dismissed speculation linking Roberts with a move away from Priestfield on Saturday as the veteran striker was at the Abbey Stadium watching Cambridge's 2-1 win over Oxford.
The 36-year-old had been linked with a move to Colchester but decided on a move to Cambridge and re-igniting his playing career with the League 2 side's quest to avoid relegation.
He said: "That's one of the main reasons for me coming here. I've not started a game since November 27.
"With a new manager coming into Gillingham he brought his own people with him and I've not really figured in the side. I've got on for the odd few minutes here and there but I want to be starting games."
Roberts was brought into Priestfield as a player/coach but since Stan Ternent took the reins from Andy Hessenthaler, he had been relieved of his duties.
However, the Welshman is looking forward to working with the strikers on his move to at Cambridge.
He stressed: "Coaching is something I enjoy and it's something I was doing at Gillingham until the new manager came in with his own people - which most managers do - but I do enjoy working with younger professionals and hopefully helping them."
