Gills 'may have to relocate outside Medway'

GILLINGHAM chairman Paul Scally has admitted for the first time that he is considering moving the club outside of the Medway Towns in his attempts to relocate away from Priestfield.

As he awaits the outcome of a feasibility study for a new site at Temple Marsh at Cuxton, he stressed: "That is the only appropriate site in Medway.

"However, if we are not able to develop there will shall have to find an appropriate site as close as possible to Priestfield, maybe 10 or 12 miles away."

Mr Scally is looking to build a 20,000 plus stadium at Temple Marsh with the financial assistance of the Las Vegas based Venetian Hotel Group and St Modwens Properties plc.

Included in the plan is a moveable pitch and sliding roof.

Should the Temple Marsh be abandoned, then the club may have to look to north Kent and a site in the Thames Gateway area.
