Folkestone Invicta 0 Gillingham 2

GOALS either side of half-time from new signings Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu and Dean McDonald gave Gillingham a winning start to their pre-season campaign at Folkestone Invicta on Wednesday.

The Gills went ahead a minute before the break when good work by Mike Flynn set up Ndumbu-Nsungu, who showed good composure to beat goalkeeper Tony Kessell.

The lead was doubled in the 48th minute when McDonald capitalised on a defensive mistake to round the keeper and rolled the ball into the unguarded net.

As well as their summer signings - except goalkeeper Kelvin Jack who was involved in the World Cup - Ronnie Jepson took the opportunity to evaluate four triallists.

Bryan Murphy, formerly of Swansea and Manchester City, and ex-Luton player Scott Ward shared the goalkeeper duties, while 20-year-old Magnus Okuonghae and 22-year-old Craig Dobson started the match in defence and midfielder respectively.

The Gills next friendly is against the United Arab Emirates at Le Touquet Stadium in France on Tuesday evening.

Gillingham: Murphy (Ward 60), Jupp (Clohessy 62), Johnson, Okuonghae, Jackman (Crofts 55), Dobson (Collin 27), Flynn (Jarvis 55), Bentley (Stone 62), Easton, McDonald (Pugh 55), Ndumbu-Nsungu (Mulligan 55).
