Gillingham 1 - 0 Chesterfield

A LATE goal by defender Brent Sancho gave Gillingham their first win in six league matches against Chesterfield at Priestfield on Tuesday night.

The Trinidad & Tobago international popped up to glance in the only goal of the game from Steve Hislop's cross in the 86th minute. It was his first goal for the club.

The home side started strongly and were dominant in a first half which saw Darren Byfield, Andrew Crofts and Andy Hessenthaler all force saves out of Chesterfield keeper Barry Roche.

The visitors rarely threatened, although the match seemed destined for a draw until Sancho's late intervention.

Maximum points moved the Gills up to 20th in the League 1 table.

The only negative part of the night for Neale Cooper's side was an injury to in-form Byfield, who had to be replaced by Hislop at half-time.
