GILLINGHAM have been handed the task of taking on Premiership opposition in the Carling Cup third round after being drawn away to Bolton Wanderers.
After defeating Cambridge United and Stoke City in away ties in the previous rounds of the competition, Andy Hessenthaler's side will travel to the Reebok Stadium in the week commencing October 27.
The match could provide a re-union for Gillingham's two ex-Wanderers players, Rod Wallace and Nicky Southall, who both moved to Priestfield from Bolton last season.
However, Wallace is unlikely to be fit after tearing a hamstring tendon, while Southall is also a big doubt after only just returning to training following an ankle injury.
Southall said: “I cannot believe it, I'm shocked. I didn't believe I would ever be going back there. I really enjoyed my time there and it will be really emotional going back.
“Hopefully I can get back to full fitness and get myself in the team for the game. It will be emotional for me, but I will enjoy the experience.
“It's definitely winnable because they will probably put out a side of fringe players. That said, because I'm at the Gills they may play a stronger side.”
* Gillingham's home league game with Sunderland has been postponed due to international call-ups. The match, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, October 11, will now take place on Tuesday, November 4, kick 7.45pm.
