Gillingham 3 - 0 Swindon Town

GILLINGHAM'S impressive home form continued with a comfortable win against Swindon at Priestfield on Saturday.

The Gills took a deserved lead on 19 minutes when Swindon keeper Rhys Evans failed to deal with a deflected Alan Pouton cross from the right and allowed Byfield to outjump him and head into the net for his sixth goal of the campaign.

The visitors were almost level immediately when Jamie Cureton got in behind the recalled Ian Cox, but his shot was well saved by Gillingham keeper Jason Brown.

Paul Smith came on at half-time as Swindon tried to force their way back into the match. He did have a good chance to level for Swindon but fluffed his shot well wide of the target.

But Gillingham made sure of the points on 73 minutes when Danny Spiller got round the back of Aaron Brown and fired the ball across for Mike Flynn to finish well from the centre of the penalty area.

And there was still time for Ronnie Jepson's side to add a third when another Evans error presented Neil Harris with a simple tap-in from almost on the goal-line in with eight minutes to go.

Gillingham: Brown, Clohessy, Cox, Johnson, Jackman, Spiller, Crofts, Flynn, Pouton (Wallis 87), Harris (Hope 89), Byfield (Grant 82).
Subs Not Used: Crichton, Sancho.
