Rotherham 1 Gillingham 3
DARIUS HENDERSON’S third goal in two games helped Gillingham to a vital 3-1 win at Rotherham on Saturday.
Henderson got to substitute Mamady Sidibe’s pass ahead of home goalkeeper Mike Pollitt and slotted the ball home to give Stan Ternent’s team a two-goal cushion with eight minutes to play.
Mike Flynn put the Gills ahead after 26 minutes. The midfielder broke the offside trap to get on the end of Paul Smith’s superb through pass and then kept his nerve to chip the ball over the advancing keeper.
The visitors should have been further ahead before the break but Sidibe and his strike partner Darius Henderson were both guilty of missing good chances.
Stan Ternent’s side were made to pay 10 minutes into the second period when Rotherham equalised through Martin Butler after Andrew Crofts had mis-controlled.
The home side came to life briefly after their goal, led by the tricky Jamie Campbell-Ryce, but the Gills were back in front after 72 minutes through Sidibe.
The big forward latched onto a long ball forward, held off his marker and coolly slotted home past the advancing Pollitt for his first league goal of the season.
And Henderson made things comfortable 10 minutes later to give the Gills a rare away victory.
The only downside of the afternoon was the injuries to Alan Pouton and Barry Ashby, who both had to be carried off.
