Doncaster Rovers v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM travel to Doncaster on Saturday with boss Ronnie Jepson facing a striker shortage.

Eight-goal top scorer Darren Byfield begins a four-game ban after his second red card of the campaign at Swindon on Tuesday.

But Gillingham are also without Byfield's regular strike partner Neil Harris, who looks likely to be sidelined for several weeks after damaging knee ligaments in triaining on Monday.

Jepson admits it is a selection headache but has challenged those who come in to prove they can make the grade.

He said: "With Neil Harris, Darren Byfield, Matt Jarvis (hernia) and Alan Pouton (knee) out, we’re struggling. But it’s up to those lads that are coming in to prove their worth.

"We have a squad of players and if they can’t come in and do a job, or they don’t do their job, then that tells you everything you want to know.

"We’ve got 18 players to pick from going to Doncaster and hopefully they’ll be good enough to go and get a result."

Jepson watched Rovers’ 1-0 win at Chesterfield on Wednesday night and knows just what a challenge Saturday’s game will be.

He said: "We know from their cup exploits this year just what a good side they are. Manager Dave Penney has done a good job up there and brought some good players in so we know it’s going to be tough.

"We’ll go there with plenty of respect but no fear and hopefully we can come away with something.

"I think we’re capable of going anywhere and getting a result so long as the players have confidence in themselves."
