Rotherham 2 Gillingham 0

Gillinghams impressive run on the road came to an end with defeat against Rotherham.

The Gills were searching for a fourth straight League 2 away win but got nothing in a poor game on Saturday.

Rotherham held a first half lead after Jamie Clark had fired home and Jamie Green settled it with an 81st- minute strike.

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson made three changes to the starting eleven after losing at home to Bradford last week. The most notable was the inclusion of Barry Fuller, who started after almost two months on the sidelines.

It was a slow start from both teams, played in the open surroundings of Rotherhams temporary home at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield.

Gillinghams chances were rare and they were trailing to Clarkes 25th-minute effort before they began to trouble home keeper Andy Warrington.

Simeon Jacksons low shot stung Warringtons hands. With five minutes left of the half, Andy Barcham netted but that was ruled out for offside and Gillingham went into the break a goal down.

There was little action at the start of the second half with Stuart Lewis the only man to have a shot but that went way wide.

Stimson made a double substitution with 65 minutes gone and it almost paid off straight away, as Gary Mulligan fed fellow substitute Dennis Oli but his shot was blocked by Warrington.

The Gills conceded a second with nine minutes left as Warringtons long ball forward was picked up by Green and he beat Simon Royce.

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson said: The boys have done well on their trips recently but I knew we were going to come up against a good side.

We played some decent stuff in front of them but we didnt get in behind them enough or test the goalkeeper.

To go in 1-0 behind was disappointing and we conceded a second goal by not concentrating on doing the basics.

Once the second goal goes in you know its going to be a struggle.

The Gills welcomed back captain Fuller following a long absence from pneumonia and he was glad to be back

He said: "I felt good and fitness wise I got through it well. Were disappointed by the performances and results from the last couple of games but we're not down and we still believe we can be up and around the promotion places.
