Gills stars face late fitness checks

TOMMY JOHNSON: calf injury keeps him on the sidelines
TOMMY JOHNSON: calf injury keeps him on the sidelines

Gillingham v Plymouth

GILLINGHAM'S ongoing injury problems mean boss Stan Ternent will be forced to make late line-up decisions for the game with Plymouth at Priestfield on Saturday.

John Hills, Nyron Nosworthy, Jason Brown, Alan Pouton and Barry Ashby will undergo late fitness tests but Tommy Johnson (calf) and Mamady Sidibe (Achilles) will miss out.

Ternent said he was still hoping to bring in new faces but wouldn’t be drawn on reports linking him with Crystal Palace’s Neil Shipperley.

Ternent was at The Valley on Monday night to watch the Walderslade-born Shipperley score in Palace Reserves’ 4-0 win over Charlton.

Ternent added: "Our aim is simple – we need to get 50-points plus. We have to get eight wins out of our remaining 18 matches.

"I’ve been delighted with the players since I came to the club. They’ve given me everything and I can’t ask for more than that.

"We just need a bit of luck here and a bit of luck there and hopefully by May 8 we will still be a Championship side."
