GILLINGHAM withstood a late onslaught to draw against the Hornets on Tuesday night. James Chambers missed a sitter and Bruce Dyer hit the bar in stoppage time after a poor game.

Darius Henderson went near to scoring for Gills in the first half with Danny Webber going close at the other end.

Heidar Helguson should have put Watford in front towards the end of the first half but he blasted his shot over.

Danny Webber injured himself as he tried to put the ball in on the goal line but somehow missed.

Iwan Roberts headed over from close range but then Ray Lewington's side squandered three great chances at the end.

Commenting on the open goal chance Chambers missed near the end Gills manager Andy Hessenthaler said: "A few weeks ago that would have gone in so maybe that's the bit of luck we've needed."

Looking ahead to Saturday's game against Sheffield United, Hessenthaler referred to the Yorkshire club's 5-1 thrashing on Tuesday night away at Ipswich and stressed: "It could go for us and it could go against us because they'll be under pressure to bounce back."
