Walsall 1 - 0 Gillingham

WALSALL lead Gillingham 1-0 at half-time as Neale Cooper’s men continue to search for their first away win of the season.

Gills were almost behind after just six minutes but the recalled Danny Jackman was in the right place to clear off the line after Eric Skora’s corner had been headed goalwards by Chris Westwood.

The visitors’ first effort came when Matt Jarvis was allowed to shoot but his effort was straight at Joe Murphy in the Walsall goal.

But the home side did take the lead on 15 minutes when Jon Wallis made a mistake allowing a long ball upfield to bounce and Ishmel Demontagnac found himself in space and drove home past Tony Bullock.

The closest Gillingham came in the first half was a looping Chris Hope header that just clipped the post.

Gillingham: Bullock, Wallis, Hope, Johnson, Williams, Crofts, Saunders, Spiller, Jackman, Jarvis, Shields.
Subs: Crichton, Rose, Stone, Harris, Collin.
