Gillingham boss Martin Allen felt the scoreline against Woking was unjust

Martin Allen didn’t feel like his team deserved to be on the end of a three goal deficit on Saturday.

The Gills conceded a dubious penalty and a stunning third goal in a 3-0 defeat against non-league Woking.

Allen said: “We played really well in the second half and got unlucky with a few decisions which went against us.

“We did okay in the first half without creating too much and then from their one chance they scored. We had a few good little efforts in the first half but the second half was much, much better.

“I don’t think the scoreline is a true reflection of the game.”

The Gills finished with three strikers on the pitch as they attempted to get back into the game, after conceding the second goal from the penalty spot.

“I don’t think that was a penalty,” said Allen. “It was the first time they had been in our box for ages. Leon took the ball.

“Danny Kedwell was brought on to try and get a goal back. We weren’t really going to use Danny as he needed to be rested.

“Danny was fit and well and Cody was very sharp and so that’s one of the big plusses.”

It was a game where tempers at times threatened to boil over, as Woking offered a physical challenge. But Allen was more than happy with that aspect of the game.

“It was just what we needed,” insisted the Gills boss. “That’s why I came here and why I got this fixture.

“I knew what type of game it was going to be and what a good game it was for us."
