Torquay 1 Charlton 5
RUSSIA international captain Alexei Smertin is being made to wait for his Charlton debut after being left out of the squad that beat Torquay 5-1 in Tuesday's third pre-season friendly at Plainmoor.
Smertin, signed on a season's long loan from Chelsea at the weekend, watched from the sidelines as Charlton rattled up five goals for the second time in four days following the 5-2 success at Bournemouth.
Darren Bent opened the scoring in the 13th minute but the side had to wait until the 52nd minute for a second when Jerome Thomas scored.
Jason Euell scored from the first penalty awarded to Charlton for more than a season in the 58th minute before Lloyd Sam (83 mins) and Bryan Hughes (89) rounded off the scoring.
Leon Constantine replied for the home side in the 28th minute.
The Addicks continue their pre-season preparation on Saturday at Brentford and are away to Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday, July 26.
