Goldberg looks to McDonnell to save the day

Bromley manager Mark Goldberg has put out an SOS call to their injury-ravaged talisman Nic McDonnell after Tuesday night's draw at Blue Square South basement boys, Bognor Regis Town.

Striker McDonnell, who is due to return to the side this weekend in the London Senior Cup against Hendon, has not scored in seven appearances this season as a groin injury has ruined his campaign.

Goldberg said: "We're missing Nic McDonnell. He has been so unlucky with injuries - no-one would have predicted that by this time of the season, Nic would not have scored any goals.

"We have not had the same pairing up front. If Warren (McBean) and Nic had been playing things could have been different.

"We need Nic back. It is not a case of putting the onus on one player but Nic can ignite the team."

He added: "We're not in the privileged position of being able to bring players in but we're not making excuses."

The Lillywhites have picked up just four out of the last 12 points and although last night's draw lifted them one place higher, they are only six points clear of the drop zone.

Bromley took the lead at Nyewood Lane in the ninth minute through Warren McBean but Bognor, who have won just once in 13 attempts, equalised when Tom Clarke capitalised on a defensive blunder on 57 minutes.

Goldberg said: "I am disappointed with the result. We got in front early on and should have been cruising at half-time.

"We were not as lively in the second half as we should have been and a defensive header back to the keeper went to their player and they scored.

"I was absolutely gutted. After that we did not retain possession very well and although we have chances, it is another two points dropped at a critical time.

"Now we're are looking behind us, down the table, rather than forward and up the table."

He added: "But the most important thing is to stay in this division and build on what we have - that could take two years or more."
