Great start to flyfishing season

JUST two weeks into the season and it already it looks like it could be a record year for flyfishing at Bewl Water.

The fourth biggest trout ever to be caught at Southern Water’s largest reservoir was netted by Bewl regular Dave Withers.

Dave, from Orpington, caught the 13lb 5oz whopper from the bank of the reservoir.

He said: "It is the earliest that I have fished from the bank for a number of years and for an early season fish it really fought my line. I ended up staggering back to the lodge with eight fish totalling 31lbs 9oz. What a start to the season."

More success came for junior angler Amy Woodcock who had a brilliant start to the school Easter holidays when she caught a 5lb 10oz rainbow trout. Success was even sweeter for Amy because she beat her dad in the process.

Howard Mackenzie, Bewl Water Estate Manager, said: "It's been all action since the season started on March 21 and all the signs suggest that we are in for a excellent year of fishing here at Bewl."
