GERARD GREENE came close to producing the result of a lifetime against world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan at the Irish Masters.
The quarter-final match-up saw Greene, from Rainham, battle back from being 4-1 down to make it 4-3 before the Rocket wrapped up the tie with a 128 clearance to win 6-4.
O’Sullivan produced four century breaks during the match and was eventually too strong for Greene.
Greene had made it through to the last eight after claiming a 5-0 win over eighth seed and home favourite Ken Doherty.
