Gillingham 3 West Ham 6 (aet – FA Youth Cup third round)

GILLINGHAM’S youth team have been knocked out of the FA Youth Cup by West Ham United in a thrilling match.

The sides were level at 3-3 at the final whistle, but the Hammers found an extra gear in extra-time and ran out 6-3 winners. They go into the fourth round draw.

Coach Darren Hare had hoped to emulate last season’s run in the competition but his side could not overcome a club whose youth system has produced the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole, Jermain Defoe and Glen Johnson in recent years.
