Hartley lift Kent League title

Hartley were crowned Kent League, Premier Division champions on Saturday without a ball being bowled.

The crowd at Plaistow Lane, Bromley, were denied the opportunity to watch the top two sides, Hartley and Bromley, go head-to-head after rain swept in as the covers were coming off for the start.

This meant Hartley took the championship by just three points.

Captain David Thompson said: "It was a bit of an anti-climatic way to win it.

"But if someone had said to me that it was going to pour down all week and we’d win the league then I would have taken it.

"It would have been a fantastic game of cricket as they have got some good players. It was a shame in a way."

The achievement is all the more remarkable given that Hartley were promoted from Division 2 just two years ago.
