KENT athlete Kelly Holmes produced a stunning sprint finish to snatch second place in the women's 800m at the World Athletics Final in Monte Carlo on Sunday.
The world championship silver medallist, from Hildenborough, near Tonbridge, stormed through from seventh to second in the home straight, moving out into lane four to make up a 15 metres deficit.
She said afterwards: "I kept waiting, waiting, waiting - then kicked, kicked, kicked," said the delighted Holmes, who clocked 1:59.92.
The race was won by Holmes' training partner Maria Mutola, the five-times world champion, in 1:59.59.
