Gillingham 1 Burnley 0
DARIUS HENDERSON scored a spectacular winner for Gillingham as they beat Burnley 1-0.
Gills gave themselves further breathing space at the lower end of the Championship table, after another battling performance.
Stan Ternent was given an easy ride against his former side who, with nothing to play for, offered little up front.
Former Gillingham player Ade Akinbiyi showed some bright signs in the opening half, but by the second even he had lost interest.
Henderson’s winner came after 56 minutes following clever play from Jay McEveley down the left side, with the Gills’ striker curling a 20 yard effort past Brian Jenson in the Burnley goal.
Gills dominated from start to finish, and were perhaps a little disappointed not to have won by a much clearer margin.
Gills: Brown, Nosworthy, Smith, Cox, Southall, Flynn, Hope, Henderson (Byfield 73), McEveley, Douglas, Sidibe. Subs: Banks, Hills, Jarvis, Crofts. Booked: Byfield (foul, 90)
