ANDY HESSENTHALER described Neil Warnock as ‘not a very nice person’ as relations between Gillingham and Sheffield United took another turn for the worse after Saturday's 1-1 draw at Priestfield.
Gillingham's player-manager became involved in a heated exchange with United boss Warnock who protested at the end to referee Dermot Gallagher that Guy Ipoua should have been sent-off.
“Their manager was out of order,” said Hessenthaler. “He thought Guy should have been sent off but I believe the referee used common sense because he had already booked him and decided that a quiet word would be good enough.
“I don't like to see other managers trying to get opposing players sent-off, just the same as I don't like to see players trying to get their fellow professionals sent-off. But that's the type of personality he is. He is not a very nice person.”
There is no love lost between Gillingham coach Wayne Jones and Warnock from their time together at Huddersfield while the clubs fell out over Carl Asaba’s transfer to Bramall Lane in March last year.
All Warnock would say was: “What happened at the end is for me and the referee to know. Overall I thought we were superb and played some great football."
