KENT athlete Kelly Holmes made a brilliant start to a year she hopes will end with Olympic gold in Athens at the Norwich Union International at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall.
She produced a storming last lap to win the 1,500m for Britain in a time of four minutes 9.15 seconds.
Holmes, from Hildenborough, near Tonbridge, powered 10 metres away from world indoors bronze medallist Yuliya Kosenkova in impressive style.
Down the back straight, knowing the race was won, she eased over the line with a big smile on her face.
Meanwhile, Dartford Harrier James Chatt helped the Great Britain 4x400m squad finish a dramatic second behind Russia at the Norwich Union International.
Chatt, from Gravesend, who had won a guest 400m at the start of the afternoon, clocked 48.9 for fifth place on leg one.
