An early header from Tommy Smith saw Charlton lose 1-0 at home to Ipswich on Saturday.
The Addicks conceded the only goal of the game after five minutes when Smith met a corner from Aaron Creswell.
They could have been three down before then, with stand-in keeper Ben Alnwick producing outstanding saves from Smith, Darryl Murphy and Christophe Berra.
Dale Stephens headed wide as Charlton improved, then Simon Church was denied at the far post by Carl Skuse before Rhoys Wiggins' cross-shot was tipped against the post by Dean Gerken.
Ipswich were happy to sit on their lead against a Charlton side who dropped to 20th in the Championship.
Addicks captain Johnnie Jackson wasted a decent chance after working his way into the box, while on-loan Cameron Stewart's shot proved no problem for Gerken.
Charlton's Michael Morrison and Town's Frank Nouble were booked as tempers flared late on.
