THE Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team will be looking to consolidate their place in the top five of the English Premier League when they entertain the Isle of Wight Raiders at the Ice Bowl on Sunday.
A 5-5 draw with Romford at the weekend saw the Dynamos move above Chelmsford Chieftains and within four points of fourth-place Swindon Lynx.
The Dynamos have a good record against Isle of Wight at home and captain Phil Chard is in a confident mood. “We usually beat them at home and lose away,” he said. “We are hoping that trend continues on Sunday and we can nick something off them in the future at their place.
“We have had some criticisms of our performances at Isle of Wight in the past, but the size of their ice pad really does make it the hardest place in the world to play.
“They have got an all-round decent team. Their goalie is good, they have strong British players and four decent imports as well.”
The Dynamos will be looking to make a stronger start to the game, having regularly fallen behind recently in the opening period.
Despite taking the lead against Romford on Sunday, they were again trailing 3-1 at the first break and left themselves with an uphill struggle to get back into the match.
“I don't know what the problems is at the start of games,” admitted Chard. “But we have just got to fix it and get it out of our system.”
The Dynamos go into the game without any injury concerns. Face-off is at 5.15pm.
