THE Medway-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team face their sternest test of the season when Basingstoke Buffalos visit Gillingham Ice Bowl on Sunday.

The Mos are riding high in the English National Ice Hockey League but the Buffalo are just three points behind in fourth place.

Coach Kevin Parrish said his players are relishing the prospect of pitting their wits against Sunday’s visitors.

He said: "Basingstoke will be the toughest test of the season so far. They’ve just lost the one game and are a good, physical side.

"It’s going to be nice to play a team high up there in the league and the players want to show what they are all about. They’ve kept a few of their players, such as (Drew) Campbell, their goalscorer and hopefully the place will be packed."

Parish is full of praise for Grant Baxter. He said: "He is improving week after week and has probably been one of our most consistent players so far this season."

Peter Carey is unlikely to be fit for Basingstoke due to a back injury but he was able to return to training during this week.

Stuart Low misses the game after being controversially called for spearing at Solent.

Invicta returned to league action last Sunday with a 9-3 victory over Solent after their home game with Bracknell was cancelled the previous week.

AJ Smith, Kev Lake, Grant Baxter and Matt Drake scored two goals each, while Anthony Lennon was also on the scoresheet in an often physical game.
