THE Gillingham-based Invicta Dynamos ice hockey squad resume their English League
Premier Division Cup campaign when they entertain Isle of Wight Raiders on Sunday at the Ice Bowl.
Last weekend Mos recovered from a poor start to register a comfortable EHL League Cup win over Milton Keynes at the Gillingham Ice Bowl.
The game started 20 minutes late because the new ice re-surfacing machine broke down and things got worse as Dynamos found themselves 2-0 down inside the first nine minutes.
The score stayed that way until the last minute of the period when player-coach Phil Chard blasted the puck home from the blue line at 19.07.
The goal gave the Dynamos the lift they needed and they were a very different team as they took to the ice for the second period.
Invicta scored five unanswered goals with strikes from AJ Smith, Paul Hume (2), man of the match Peter Carey and Gary Dodds.
The only downside was Grant Baxter’s penalty for fighting at 32.47.
Carey bagged his second early in the final quarter to make it 7-2 before Thunder made it 7-3 at 47.10.
But goals from Smith (48.11) and Dodds (58.46) saw Invicta comfortably home.
* Invicta’s Under-16 side lost to a late goal as their frustrating start to the season continued with a 4-3 defeat. Cardiff went 2-0 up before Invicta got their act together. At 3-3 the game was heading for a draw but Cardiff snatched the win with a last gasp goal.
But the Under-12s had a fantastic win as they hammered Isle of Wight at Gillingham Ice Bowl 15-1. The damage was done by Aaron Connolly (6+3) and Joe Fisher (6+2). Jamie Swarbrick (1+0) and young Kwame Holt (1+0) also got in on the act. Liam Hoare, Invicta’s netminder, saved all but one of 14 shots but that was nothing compared to the 37 shots the two netminders used by IOW had to deal with.
