Invicta Dynamos are awaiting clarification from the English Ice Hockey Association that their ENIHL Cup South decider against Peterborough Islanders this weekend will double up as the South League decider.
The weekend series has been scheduled to decide who plays Sheffield and Kingston in the ENIHL Cup semi-finals but Dynamos head coach Kevin Parrish confirmed he would prefer for this weekend’s games to count for something, as opposed to playing out two pointless encounters.
“It doesn’t really matter to us who we play in the semi-finals,” Parrish admitted.
“We wouldn’t mind if the matter was settled through the toss of a coin.
“I believe that Sheffield and Kingston will both pose similar challenges for the team, so hopefully the league will make the decision to combine this weekend as league and cup, and in doing so get rid of the need for a separate South League final.”
Whether the league rule in favour of a combined weekend or not, Parrish is adamant his team will prepare in the same way.
“We will approach the games in the same way, no matter what rides on it,” he said.
“We’ve got to play totally different to the way we did in our first play-off game at Peterborough and make sure that we perform.
“We are going to take a conservative approach on Saturday and then hopefully play our own game on Sunday.”
Karl Lennon remains sidelined with a dislocated shoulder, but it looks unlikely that the forward will require an operation. Tomas Hentek will require surgery, however, and the 23-year-old has flown back to Slovakia to seek specialist opinion.
Further absentees for this weekend are AJ Smith (work) and Joe Allen.
