CHAIRMAN Paul Scally's Easter plea for fans to help generate increased revenue for Gillingham has met with an immediate and positive response from the Gills Independent Supporters’ Club.
Fans who attended Monday's home game with Crewe were issued with personal letters from the Gillingham chairman appealing for financial support after the collapse of the ITV Digital television deal which threatens the survival of up to 30 Nationwide League clubs. Mr Scally has repeatedly refused offers of financial assistance from the Gills Independent Supporters’ Club whom he refuses to recognise.
At the start of this season, he banned the club’s former chairman Alan Liptrott from Priestfield. Treasurer David Garth is still awaiting a response to a letter written to Mr Scally on February 11 offering match sponsorship and individual player sponsorship.
Mr Garth is stressing that the club’s offer remains on the table. He said: “If there is anything we can do to assist Gillingham Football Club at this time then we will. We have money in the bank and it is the wish of all our members to assist the football club because that’s what we're here for.
“We would love to sponsor a match next season or players. Alternatively, if we can help groundsman Billy Wood with new equipment to help to improve the pitch, then we would.”
He added: “Despite all that has gone on between the Supporters’ Club and Mr Scally we want to help. We are here to assist the club and our members would not want it any other way.”
