MANAGER Alan Pardew described Charlton's performance in losing to bottom club Queens Park Rangers as their worst of the season as his fancied side slipped to a third straight defeat in eight days.

Rangers, who had not won at The Valley since 1989, thoroughly deserved their win and should have won by more.

They could even afford to miss a 50th minute penalty when Martin Rowland's kick struck the base of a post after Jonathan Fortune brought down Rowan Vine.

Rangers won the game in the 72nd minute when goalkeeper Nicky Weaver fumbled Chris Barker's cross leaving skipper Adam Bolder to score.

"That was our worst performance of the season and we're suffering from a loss of confidence" said Pardew.

"We looked a bit sluggish. We needed a good start and didn't get it.

"We put in an inept display and were rightly booed off at the end. We just weren't tight enough.

"This is a blip and I want the players to deal with it now in time for Saturday's match at Southampton."
