Michael Harriman will miss Gillingham’s next two games following his call-up to the Republic of Ireland under-21 team.
The 21-year-old right-back is set to feature for the Irish on Friday night in their European Championship qualifier against the Faroe Islands.
He will remain on international duty ahead of the Republic of Ireland’s trip to Montenegro on Tuesday.
Those international games rule him out of Gillingham’s visit to Sheffield United on Saturday and the midweek trip to Brackley Town.
Harriman’s absence leaves a problem area for Gills boss Peter Taylor to deal with. Charlie Lee, who has been the regular reserve right-back, is suspended for Saturday’s clash after picking up his fifth caution of the season at the weekend.
With Matt Fish out with a long-term injury, Taylor may have to call on a youth player or bring in someone on loan. Any new arrivals won’t, however, be eligible for the Brackley replay, as they must have been registered before the original fixture.
That ruling will also affect Brackley, as their regular keeper Billy Turley will be suspended for the FA Cup replay, meaning they will have to find a replacement from within. He was sent off for foul and abusive language in a recent league game, against Boston United.
