International honour for college rugby skipper

MINSTER College's rugby captain has been selected for the England Under-19s squad. Aston Croall has shown so much promise that the 17-year-old loose-head prop has been moved up an age category. The talented youngster has already represented his country at under-16 and under-18 levels and played his first International against Wales aged 15.

Croall, who regularly turns out for North London side Saracens, was given the nod after a trial in Coventry. Croall of Maple Street, Sheerness, said: "I hope to go as far as I can with my rugby. At the moment I'm looking forward to going to Dublin on November 24-25 to play Ireland.

"The next big game is when New Zealand come over in January to play at Twickenham and then I'll be concentrating on getting a place in the squad, which goes to the World Cup in Italy in March."

Rob Sapp, sports teacher at Minster College, first got Croall interested in rugby. He said: "He was in year 10 when we first got him playing and even as a 14-year-old his talent was obvious. I used to coach at Sheppey Rugby Club and I immediately took him down there to play in the under-16 side.

"He is a very knowledgeable player and another strength is that he is very good at the basics. I can definitely see him doing well in the professional game and would like to see him earn full International honours."
