International striker on trial at Priestfield

ICELANDIC international Helgi Sigurdsson could be the shock new signing brought in to improve Gillingham's attack.

His agent has contacted Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler to say the player is available on a free and it was immediately arranged for him to join up with the Priestfield squad on Thursday for a trial.

The 29-year-old is hugely experienced having played in the Champions League for Panathinaikos, in the Bundesliga for VFB Stuttgart and in European and World Cup qualifiers for his country.

Hessenthaler said: “He looks fit and strong, played alongside Chelsea’s Eider Gudjohnsen in the last Icelandic international and is available on a free.”
