Sheppey 14 Sittingbourne 20
Sheppey continued their Kent 1 struggles on Saturday when they lost the derby against Sittingbourne at The Ditch.
The home side made light of their opponents in the first half by taking an 8-0 lead, despite playing up slope against the wind.
Ben Hollick was the try scorer and the ever-reliable Brad Box added a penalty.
Although Box kicked a further brace of penalties in the second half, Sittingbourne responded to level the scores at 14-14 with five minutes to go, as Sheppey's nerves got the better of them.
Sheppey's hopes of taking something from the game then evaporated as Scott Truss kicked two penalties in the final seconds to claim the two points for Sittingbourne.
"We did all the hard work in the first half," said coach Frank Davis. "But we went on to press the self-destruct button in the second half and Sittingbourne made us pay."
