Simeon Jackson netted his first league goal in open play since December and described the moment as massive.
Since his goal against Brentford just before Christmas, Jackson has scored past Aston Villa in the FA Cup and twice netted in the league from the penalty spot. But nothing feels quite like scoring from open play in the league.
"It was massive for me, a great feeling and I want to keep it going now," said Jackson.
Saturday’s opener took his personal tally to 15, with 14 of those coming in League 2. Now he wants to regain the kind of form that led to him getting the attention of some big clubs.
"I just need to try and get a bit of consistency now and keep them coming," he said.
"That’s my first one in open play for a while and so hopefully I can just build on that.
"It was a great performance and we’ll take that back to our home games now."
Jackson’s lack of goals cost him his place in the team but he has recently won that back and has now started the last two games.
"It’s frustrating but it does happens," he conceded. "You won’t be able to score in every game and you just have to keep going and believe in yourself that chances will come.
"When you’re not doing it someone else has to come in and do it. We’ve got a good togetherness and players who are willing to step up and do well for the team. It’s good to have that competition for places.
"For me it was good to get back on the scoresheet and hopefully I’ll build on that."
Jackson is also hoping to build on the partnership with Mark McCammon – one that boss Mark Stimson has described as his perfect pairing.
"He’s a big man and he takes the pressure off me," said Jackson. "He beats up the centre halves and allows me to do my stuff. We’re trying to get it gelling together. It’s good we’ve got that opportunity now."
