Gillingham 2 Cheltenham Town 1

GILLINGHAM got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over struggling Cheltenham Town at Priestfield.

The Gills went ahead on 13 minutes when skipper Mike Flynn broke away and found Matt Jarvis who smashed the ball past keeper Scott Brown.

It was no more than the home side deserved after dominating an opening period that saw Jarvis and Flynn both go close.

But the visitors were level before the half hour when Gillingham's defenders failed to push out quickly enough after a corner and Grant McCann was allowed to steal in and beat Scott Flinders.

However, the Gills regained the lead when Mark Bentley headed in Clint Easton's pinpoint cross just before the half-time whistle.

Gilliingham: Flinders, Jupp, Cox, Johnson, Jackman, Bentley, Crofts, Flynn, Easton (savage 60), Jarvis, Ndumbu-Nsungu (McDonald 81).
Subs not used: Clohessy, Pouton, Spiller.
