AMATEUR golfer Paul Jeffrey is looking forward to possibly playing in the final of one of Europe's biggest pro-am competitions in Portugal later this year.
Cobham-born Jeffrey, alongside pro Mark Foreman, is due to play in the regional qualifying of the Lombard Trophy at Surrey's Camberley Heath GC on Monday.
He said: “You can't help but dream about victory. In fact, my kids are already looking forward to a nice holiday in Portugal.”
With an all-expenses-paid trip to the San Lorenzo course in the Algarve at stake for the winners, the duo will need to wait for their chance after being drawn in the penultimate group.
However, Jeffrey, who plays off 15 and qualified to play with Foreman after winning the May Monthly Medal at Mid-Kent Golf Club, says he’s just glad to be there.
He said: “We aren’t teeing off until 1.50pm but I'm glad we didn’t have to get up too early and I’m looking forward to it because I understand it’s a nice course. Hopefully we’ll do well.
“Even though I knew the Monthly Medal was doubling up for another qualifier, it was a lovely surprise to find out I was playing in this event with Mark.
“I've never played at Camberley Heath before or Mark, although he did give me lessons a few years ago. This will be an 18-hole playing lesson, I suppose.”
