Wolves v Gillingham
ASSISTANT manager Ronnie Jepson believes Gillingham need to be more positive if they are to banish their away day blues and end their scoring drought.
Jepson is aware his team travel to Wolves on Saturday without an away win since August and having failed to hit the back of the net in nearly 300 minutes of football.
He said: "Obviously we know all about our away record and we need to improve on that. We have been working on trying to be more positive and getting the ball into the box more.
"We just need that bit of belief to get forward more and score goals away from home. We’ve held a few finishing sessions in training and hopefully they will pay off.
"It’s not just the forwards, though. Everyone needs to get up for free kicks and corners and take their chances."
Gillingham’s last visit to Molineux was two seasons ago, with Wolves claiming a 6-0 win.
But Gills skipper Paul Smith said that heavy defeat would not be an issue. He said: "That game is history now. It’s not about looking for revenge. Wolves went up that season but this year they are struggling a bit.
"Our away form could be a mental thing. Sometimes teams can go away and be beaten before they’ve even kicked a ball. I don’t think that’s the case with us, though.
"We have become more organised under Stan and Ronnie and we are a solid defensive unit now."
But Smith did suggest that the fact that 13 of the squad are out of contract at the end of the season - himself included - was not an ideal scenario.
When asked if that situation could spoil team spirit, he replied: "It probably can. But nobody wants to go out and have a bad game. Everyone is still under contract for the club and will continue to give 100 per cent and their best for the club."
Gillingham should be more or less unchanged from the 0-0 draw with Millwall, although Danny Spiller, Mamady Sidibe and Chris Hope are on their way back from injury.
