ALTHOUGH promotion is Gillingham’s aim this season, manager Ronnie Jepson insists his current priority is to avoid the drop.

Relegation seems improbable but Jepson is still targeting a sizeable points haul to stave off any threat before thinking of a return to the Championship.

He said: "My aim first and foremost is to get enough points to stay in this league. Then I’ll look towards the play-offs like every other manager.

"We don’t try to look at things that might be out of our reach. Our aim is to get as many points as we can out of every game we play."
