Gillingham 1 Scunthorpe United 3
GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson has sympathised with the fans who jeered the team at end of Saturday's home defeat to Scunthorpe.
The criticism from what was left of the Priestfield crowd said it all after they had seen the Gills throw away a one-goal lead and collapse in the second half.
Jepson said his side defended poorly during a second half shambles that handed victory to Scunthorpe and sent Gillingham tumbling ever closer to the League 1 drop zone.
He said: "That performance wasn’t acceptable for me or the supporters. They made their feelings felt, which I thought was quite right. If I was one of them then I’d have felt exactly the same.
"We need to get through to the end of the season, remain in the division and get the type of characters we want in this club."
It was the first time the Gills had lost in the league on hone soil since the 2-1 reverse against Southend on October 1.
