Jepson: Dismal away record is all in the head

MK Dons v Gillingham

GILLINGHAM manager Ronnie Jepson believes his side's poor away form is a psychological problem.

Why Gills have the home record of a promotion-chasing side (five defeats in 20) and the away one of relegation-certainties (one win in 19) is the million dollar question.

The season was six months old before the Gills recorded their first away win at Swansea and Jepson thinks that is the key.

He said: "We needed to get that win under our belts earlier in the season but we never did. The more it builds up when you fail to win away, the more of a mental thing it becomes.

"People then start talking about it, the press start asking about it and the players start reading about it. Then it starts to become psychological."

Gillingham travel to MK Dons on Saturday aiming to improve on that dismal record on the road.
