Gillingham 1 Swansea City 0
RONNIE JEPSON predicted a brighter future for Gillingham after his side further eased their relegation worries with victory over Swansea on Saturday.
The Gills boss guided his under-fire team to a second home success in five days against high-flying opponents with the 1-0 win.
Six points in a week have lifted Gillingham from the drop zone to 16th position in League 1 and Jepson believes his battlers can continue to climb the table.
He said: "The two teams we’ve beaten this week showed the lads that they are capable. We shouldn’t be at this end of the league because we’re capable of beating those teams.
"That should have given them a lift, it’s certainly given me a lift and from the supporters reaction in the first and second half it gave them a lift as well.
"I’m pleased because they are good players and if they can do that for me again like they’ve done this week collectively then we’ll climb a bit further up the league."
Gillingham were in the bottom four and heading for League 2 following a 6-0 hammering by Bristol City, but the response shown since then has left Jepson optimistic.
"The lads responded in the right manner following the Bristol City performance and hopefully that’s in the past now," he added.
