GILLINGHAM'S new recruit Clint Easton spent last week familiarising himself with Ronnie Jepson's side and believes promotion is a definite possibility.

The 28-year-old, who has signed a one-year deal on a free transfer, has already tasted life at the top.

He enjoyed a season in the Premiership with Watford and has represented England at under-20 level and is now focusing on getting his new club back into the Championship.

He said: "Our aim is to definitely be in the play-offs – if not fighting for automatic promotion.

"The club had a great run towards the end of last season and if we can keep that form going, then we’ll be there or thereabouts.

"There’s some good lads with good character about, which is what you need."

Easton was a victim of Gianluca Vialli’s clear-out at Watford in 2001 and a three-year stint at Norwich followed, before a move to Wycombe.

Easton reverted from midfield to play left-back as Wycombe narrowly missed promotion to League 1 last term.

"My contract ran out at Wycombe and unfortunately the manager got sacked about half an hour before my meeting with the chairman," explained Easton.

"So they couldn’t offer me anything until the new manager came in. I had a few offers but as soon as I heard about Gillingham, that was my priority."
