Margate 2 Redbridge 0

MOSES JJUNJU scored twice as Margate registered their first Nationwide Conference win for more than two months at Homelands on Saturday.

Only 166 were there to see it as Jjunju's strikes, one in in each half, earned a valuable three points and hoisted Chris Kinnear's side four places in the table.

It was their first victory in 10 Conference games, and a first clean sheet since late October.

Kinnear fielded the 11 fit players available to him, with the only named substitute goalkeeper Nej Hussein unable to play after being injured in training last week.

It was only Jjunju's third league start of the season, but he did not look rusty and took both his chances well to open his Conference account.

Redbridge, playing their second match under new boss Jim Stannard made the brighter start, but Jjunju gave Margate an 18th minute lead. He chased a long through ball, which visiting 'keeper Jamie Riley failed to hold, allowing Jjunju to roll the ball into the empty net.

Margate pressed forward looking for a second, but almost gifted the Essex club an equaliser five minutes before the break. A free kick by former Gate player Gregg Lincoln bounced off goalkeeper Peter Trego's left hand post, and back into his grateful hands. Then Trego produced a fine save to tip over a goalbound effort by Alex Tiesse.

Rocky Baptiste almost increased Margate's lead four minutes after the restart, which Riley half stopped. Jjunju got his second after 55 minutes. Greg Oates free kick found Jjunju in the box and he headed past Riley.

Peter Benevides went close to adding a third, after Alex Charalambous' effort was half cleared, before Baptiste's audacious lob just cleared the bar. Jjunju was then inches away from a hat-trick.

The win proved even more important for Margate as fellow-strugglers Carshalton and Maidenhead also both won.
