THERE was a dramatic and unprecedented conclusion to the 2006-07 Kent Senior Men’s cross country league at Parkwood School, Swanley.

In a barnstorming performance to win the final race, Barry Royden of Medway and Maidstone became the first M40 athlete to win the title and the first joint winner following a tie on points with Tonbridge teacher Huw Evans.

Evans was permitted to retain the trophy he has now held for three years as the league champion while Royden was presented with a new cup which has been purchased by the Kent County Athletic Association to replace the previous silverware.

The team trophy went to Medway and Maidstone. Tonbridge finished second overall from Kent AC and Blackheath and Bromley in a tight finish for the final podium places.
