Joyful spell for Margate

Margate 2 Leigh RMI 0

MARGATE celebrated the news that manager Chris Kinnear has agreed a new three-year contract with a fine win over Nationwide Conference strugglers Leigh at Crabble.

Before a crowd of 535, the Gate were ahead inside five minutes as Phil Collins fired home from 15 yards after the ball had broken to him in the box.

Collins should have had a second before the break when he headed wide at the far post from Adrian Clark's corner, but Leigh also went close with Ged Courtney curling a shot wide from 12 yards.

Margate made the game safe in the 63rd minute when John Keister teed up fellow midfielder Jay Saunders who beat Leigh keeper Stuart Coburn with a crisp side-foot from the edge of the box.
