KENT'S U13B girl cricketers remain unbeaten against county opposition after a seven-wicket victory over Cambridgeshire.

After losing the toss at Mersham, near Ashford, they dismissed the visitors for 86, with a generally accurate bowling display and some excellent fielding.

Jess Denniff and Chloe Seymour, both from Sevenoaks, took two wickets apiece, with captain Claudia O’Connell, from Hollingbourne, Miranda Frizzelle, from Blackheath, Katharine Wickington, from Canterbury, and Katie Osborn, also from Sevenoaks, taking one each.

It was a good match for Katie Osborn whose wicket completed a hat-trick. She had taken two wickets in consecutive balls in her last bowling spell in a previous match.

She also ran out one of the Cambridgeshire batsmen with a smart bit of throwing. For both achievements, she was named player of the match by manager John Bassant and coach Andy Stent.

The Kent girls reached the required target of 87 with just three wickets down and 12 overs to spare.

Openers Kate Stent (Welling) and Wickington put on 30 for the first wicket, while Denniff (18), O’Connell, 18 not out, and Laura Bassant, 10 not out, steered Kent home.

The team, dubbed the Wonderbees and supported by SeaFrance as part of its sponsorship of the county’s girls cricket development programme, was: Claudia O’Connell, Katharine Wickington, Jess Denniff, Laura Bassant, Zoe Sturgess, Miranda Frizzelle, Chloe Seymour, Rachael Joynson, Josie Osborn, Katie Osborn, Bryony Scott, and Caitlin Campbell.
