Danny Kedwell admits that there isn’t a great deal of science behind his phenomenal penalty record for the Gills.

In the last three seasons he has scored 18 penalties for the Gills.

Saturday’s winner was the latest for 30-year-old Kedwell as he held his nerve infront of the Rainham End to bag three points for his team.

“I’ve got a nice powerful shot and I believe that if I hit it hard enough it’s going to go in,” said the Gills favourite, speaking to the Gills official website.

“If the keeper gets to it, he’s going in (the net) with it.”

Kedwell may look like he’s got nerves of steel but admits he’s not as relaxed as it may seem

“It is a bit nerve-wracking,” admitted the striker, who now has eight goals to his name for the season.

“There is a bit of pressure and it’s not as easy as what people think when you’ve got all these people watching you and expecting you to score, which you should do really, from 12 yards.

“I feel confident enough and I am glad that I scored the penalty that won us the game.”

That goal came after an hour, in a difficult match for the Gills.

“It was just what we needed,” he said. “Last week was disappointing but we had a great first half and a bad second half and (against Carlisle) we had a bad first half and good second half.

“It’s worked out well for us and going into the FA Cup next week we will hope to get another win and that gives you a bit of momentum.”
