Kedwell fires Welling through in FA Cup

WINNER: Danny Kedwell
WINNER: Danny Kedwell

Dorchester 1 - 2 Welling United

STRIKER Danny Kedwell put Welling United into the first round of the FA Cup with an 81st minute winner at Dorchester on Saturday.

The Wings had to come from behind to book their place against Huddersfield Town.

Welling were behind as early as the third minute when Jamie Gleeson's free-kick was headed in by Dorchester captain Alex Browne.

Kedwell nearly equalised two minutes later when his header hit the top of the bar as Welling got back into the contest.

The visitors dominated for long periods and created plenty of chances with Che Stadhart twice going close and Matt Bodkin denied by home keeper Graig Bradshaw.

On the stroke of half-time Adrian Clarke's right wing corner was met by Lee Shearer at the near post but his header came back off the crossbar.

Welling deserved their equaliser on 62 minutes with a goal of the season contender from former Gillingham forward Bodkin, who collected the ball inside his own half, skipped past Simon Radcliffe and ran 50 yards before firing past Bradshaw.

The game looked to be heading towards a replay before Kedwell took advantage of some static home defending to fire home, much to the delight of a travelling support numbering more than 100 Welling fans.
